Each year, the Southern Nevada Mechanical Engineering Achievement Award is presented to a company, organization, or individual who has contributed to the advancement of the mechanical engineering profession in Southern Nevada.This year we recognize Dr. Robert Boehm for his long-term research and focus on solar energy which has culminated in UNLV being recognized as one of five regional DOE solar test centers.
Dr. Boehm will also be our keynote speaker discussing UNLV’s Center for Energy Research, their recent NSF grant and DOE recognition as a Regional Test Center. Continue reading
University of Nevada at Las Vegas has been chosen by the U.S. Department of Energy to be one of 5 Regional Test Center sites that will work to make solar energy more affordable and reliable through the development of nationwide standards in the photovoltaic (PV) industry. The Nevada site will accommodate as many as 8 different systems and support a total capacity of 250kW DC. This collaborative project will include the efforts of UNLV’s Center for Energy Research with oversight from Sandia Labs on a Las Vegas Valley Water District site of 4 acres at Elkhorn Reservoir in Las Vegas.
ASME’s Society Winter Dinner was an event was met with great success , our engineers mingling, achievement acknowledged and great technical presentation .

It’s that time of year again where we celebrate independence and explosions and the UNLV Student Section of the ASME is ready to sell you the latter so you can enjoy the former. Come by our TNT Fireworks Booth at the southwest corner of S. Durango Dr. and W. Russell Rd. in the 7-11 parking lot. We’ll have all your favorite fireworks including Piccolo Petes and some great new additions to our lineup including a new grand finale so get the best and support the UNLV Student Section at the same time. ASME is holding the District D Student Professional Development Conference this weekend (April 15-16) at UNLV. 140 students and faculty advisors from universities across the Western States will be in attendance. The weekend will be filled with competitions, good eats, and lots of geeky fun! We hope you can find some spare time and stop by.
